Clinical Research Veterinarian-Job Description
Client is a complex R&D organization consisting of research laboratories supported by multiple core functions which provide internal capacity to perform gene transfer studies from basic research through phase 1 proof-of-concept human trials. They currently employ more than 100 FTEs with an annual operating budget of $55M based on a wide array of funding sources. They need to grow to >200 FTEs. The R&D enterprise has at its core a translational infrastructure that includes: technology discovery, specialized immunology assays operating under GLP, a Vector Core and Manufacturing unit that conducts GMP based assays and oversees CMOs in vector production, and a large NonClincal program for animal testing under GLP including large nonhuman primate and mouse vivaria.
Under the Supervision of the Director of the Animal Models Core, the Clinical Research Veterinarian has responsibility for: maintaining the physical and psychological health of laboratory animals utilized in gene therapy research; compliance with regulations governing humane and ethical treatment and use of laboratory animals; animal model development; ensuring quality animal supply for studies. The Clinical Research Veterinarian will advise researchers on the design, implementation, and completion of studies to evaluate gene therapies and assist with submission of IACUC protocols, ensuring regulatory compliance within Client, and provide oversight to post approval monitoring of IACUC protocols and animal study areas for Client. Licensure to practice veterinary medicine in at least one US state and ability to obtain licensure in Pennsylvania within 6 months of employment is required.
 
Requirements
  DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school and a minimum of 1 year of experience in Laboratory Animal Medicine
Licensure to practice veterinary medicine in at least one US state and ability to obtain licensure in Pennsylvania within 6 months of employment is required.
USDA accreditation within 6 months of employment required
Ability to obtain DEA registration
Veterinary clinical skills with a variety of animals including rodents and nonhuman primates
Excellent organizational and project management skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of Programs.
Experience conducting research in a USDA or FDA regulated environment preferred.
Current and relevant working knowledge of regulations governing the use of animals in teaching and research (e.g., USDA, PHS, AAALAC) preferred.
*Advanced degree (MS or PhD) and/or board-certification in applicable specialty preferred.
